[CONCERT] Orchestra della Toscana – Erina Yashima & Elly Suh

April 15

Orchestra della Toscana – Erina Yashima & Elly Suh

Embrace the orchestral lightness through three unique approaches, encompassing popular energy, Slavic lyricism, and theatrical freshness. At the helm is Erina Yashima, a distinguished German conductor of Japanese descent. Formerly an assistant to Riccardo Muti at the Chicago Symphony and Yannick Nézet‐Séguin at the Philadelphia Orchestra, she served as First Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper in Berlin from 2022 to 2024, known for her decisive gestures, clarity, and narrative flair.

The journey begins with György Ligeti’s Concert Românesc, crafted in 1951. This brief, vibrant composition draws inspiration from traditional Eastern European music, showcasing the composer’s penchant for vivid colors and irregular patterns. Central to the program is Antonín Dvořák’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, a piece characterized by expansive melodic range, romantic vigor, and Bohemian charm. It features Elly Suh, a Korean‐born American violinist celebrated for her sound purity and the poetic depth of her interpretations.

The concert concludes with Georges Bizet’s Symphony in C major, a masterpiece composed at the age of seventeen. This effervescent work, influenced by Gounod and Rossini, brims with creativity and youthful exuberance.
